Wheel Fairings Done with Class!
When I was at OSH 2006, I saw one thing that set a couple of
RV-10's apart from the others, especially mine. The wheel
fairings, which are one of the least pleasing jobs you can do on the
project, can be made to look much nicer with a little extra work on
them. Shown here are Vic Syracuse's and Debbie Dewey's wheel
fairings. Notice that Vic blended his intersection fairings into
his wheel fairing, so they're very smooth. Then he cut the seam
down the normal wheel fairing separation line, so they come apart and
off easily. It's a first-class job, that's for sure. One
other thing he pointed out to me. If you look at his fuel tank
vent in the photos, there is a rudder cable exit fairing type thing in
front of it. This is to keep ice from building up and plugging
your fuel vent. That's thinking ahead!
Looking at Debbie's, you can see they were done the standard way, but
done with much nicer precision and fit than most RV's that I've seen.
They really look nice.
